13 Weeks Pregnant

Week by Week Pregnancy Guide: 13 Weeks

With you being 13 weeks pregnant, you should bear in mind that another important thing that have happened to your baby now is the full development of the lips and nose. In fact, your little baby now will be producing and excreting urine.

And good news! You are in the last week of your first trimester. This means that you are in the 1/3 stage of your pregnancy journey. So, by now, not only have the nose and lips fully developed, the teeth, fingerprints and even the vocal cords are now perfectly in order. And while the other parts of the body are also developing, it is good to know that by now, the head is just like half of the size of the total frame of your baby.

More so, the intestines of your baby are gradually changing as well. While they have been growing inside a cavity in the umbilical cord before now, now that you are 13 weeks pregnant, they will be moving into their permanent and convenient place inside the abdomen. The weight of the placenta which will be serving the needs of your baby will also be growing and also weighing between one and two pounds when the baby is born.

Although, at this stage, your baby will be lying in such a manner that the bottom will be on the left side and the head on the right side, so it may be difficult to find out the sex right now. And in terms of the size of your baby at this stage, he or she will be like the size of a lemon. That means that given a normal growth rate, your baby should be about 2.9 inches in size and around .81 ounces in terms of weight.

Now, the good news is that at the 13 week of your pregnancy, it is most likely that you will feel less nausea and more energized. This is because the placenta will be taking over the hormonal production. Then, the throwing up you experience every now and then will most likely leave you. You may also begin to see some blue streaks below your skin as indication that there is an increase in the flow of blood in you.

If you have been finding it difficult to exercise, you will have the strength to do that now. So, you need to get back into that routine. The importance of this is that it ensures that you and your baby stay fit and during labour, things get easier for you. So, it is advisable to enroll in a yoga class.

At this time, if you have felt some discomfort for sex, it is most likely the desire for it will be welling up again. Just feel cool with it and enjoy yourself if you find out your desire for sex is heightening. Then, chances are that your breasts are likely to get bigger by now.

Begin to prepare for maternity clothes as your tummy will begin to shoot out, thereby making you look pregnant in the weeks to come.
