14 Weeks Pregnant

Week by Week Pregnancy Guide: 14 Weeks

Wow! It is a great journey you have embarked on so far since you became pregnant. And you really deserve to be congratulated for making it thus far. It is worth knowing that now that you are 14 weeks pregnant, you have just begun another phase of your journey which is the second trimester.

At this 14th week of your pregnancy, your baby would have developed the facial muscles which will enable him or her to begin to smile and even grimace. Also, the genitals would have been fully developed, only that it may still be hard to detect using the ultrasound. Then, the hair on the head would have been sprouting by now. But the only thing is that the final color of the hair would be determined at birth.

Concerned about the size of your baby? Don’t worry, now that you are 14 weeks pregnant, the size of your baby will be about 8.5cm long which is like half the size of a banana in length. Also, the weight will be about 43 grams. In fact, by now, your baby will be growing bigger and getting stronger by the day. The arms would have developed so well that it will be in proportion with the body, while the legs will have to grow a little more until the baby gets to its full proportion.

Another interesting thing about your baby is that he or she would have started developing his own set of fingerprints right on those tiny fingers. So, you can be sure that by now, your baby will be able to suck his thumb. And then, the impulses of your baby’s brain would have been developed so that he or she can squint, frown, and switch from an expression to the other.

Funny enough, but a fact, in this second trimester of your pregnancy, your baby is capable of urinating every 45 minutes with about half a liter urine. It is possible that you experience nose bleeds and snoring. If you have issues on nasal congestion, this is due to an increase in the rate at which blood is pumped around your body. And except you have some discomfort due to this, you do not have to worry about that.

More so, if you get some sharp pains on each sides of your stomach, don’t worry, they are called ’round ligament pains. It is possible that the pains get worse whenever you move. These happen as a result of the stretches that your womb is undergoing due to its growth in size.

And apart from the pains, if you discover that your nipples are leaking so that you are having some yellow stains inside your bra or wherever, it can be a bit of colostrum which is the first milk that you will produce as a mother. Just bear this in mind that as early as 14 weeks of pregnancy, any breasts can begin to produce milk.

So, for now, try as much as you can to take your baby off smoky areas. Do more of exercises, especially if you have not started. It is not just for the sake of the present, but also against the day of your delivery.
