The research team surveyed about 5000 women whose ages were between 20 to 40 in the US. These females were provided with an option of inviting the male partners, and around 1000 males participated.

The team of researchers found out that during the four years between 2013 to 2017, around 12% of the females and 14% of the males used marijuana every two months. After the follow up of 12 cycles, the conception chances were same in the couples who used pot and those who didn’t.

Questions were raised about the influence of using marijuana on the body and how its effects remained the same. For instance, the researchers said that putting people in classifications as per the amount of drug used is quite difficult. They said that in the future, it would be better to do the studies for the amount of marijuana used each day. In this way, it will be easy to know the exact intensity of the effects of marijuana on users.

Is it dangerous for babies?

Few studies recommend that those pregnant women who use marijuana regularly can put their babies at the high risk of the premature birth or low birth weight. Because of smoking weed, there are high levels of carbon monoxide in the blood. And, baby in the womb gets low oxygen which can affect its growth.

The kids whose mothers use marijuana while they are pregnant, get a different brain and have a disturbed sleep as they grow up. This may lead to the high chances of depression in them and other behavioral issues like attention deficits and impulsiveness. Also, the research pointed out the links between the law school grades and prenatal exposure of marijuana.

Also, it is hard to tell that the marijuana you use is pure or not. It can be contaminated which leads to a higher risk of diseases in babies once you get pregnant. If you are using marijuana, it is recommended to wait a few weeks or so before you try to get conceived. The reason is that it takes some time for the traces of drug to flush out of the body.
