Ways to Organize Your Home Before Baby Arrives
You may be having your first or fourth child but the principle of getting your home prepared for the newborn still remains. Preparing your home before your new baby comes will help you be much more relaxed and make your life easier. You may need to clean your entire house before the baby comes home including dusting, sterilizing, washing and scrubbing. Here are some tips to help you organize your home before you bring your baby home.
1. Have lots of baskets
Baskets can be your little organizers throughout your house. They come in handy for the little items you need to grab and it is convenient to have items placed all through your house for easy accessibility. You need to have several baskets in your house and each with a designated use. There are many different kinds of baskets, such as small plastic baskets, fabric baskets, stylish baskets or even big woven baskets. No matter which one you choose, it will make your life a whole lot easier when organizing your home.
2. Get some storage bins with lids
You can have some storage bins that blend well with your décor, with elegant style and ones that are durable and sturdy enough to hold a variety of items. The most important thing is that the bins should have lids to hide all the clutter and disorganization. Bins can be used for baby toys, toddler toys, shoes, blankets, and burp cloths. The smaller storage bins can be used as diaper baskets.
3. Set up a portable play yard and diaper station
Since you spend most of your time in the living room, you MUST HAVE a changing station nearby. You can create a changing station that comes with a changer top and set up a little diaper station there. The diaper station will need changing pad liners for the changer and a diaper genie. Have plenty of newborn diapers, pack of wipes, diaper cream, baby bum brush, burp cloth, some coconut oil, hand sanitizer and gauze for a baby boy.
4. Set up your nursing pillow
Most moms nurse their babies in the living room or family room space. Your nursing pillow should be kept near the living room for convenience. Choose a nursing pillow that is flexible and versatile for all nursing positions.
5. Create a surface for tummy time activity time
Tummy time is an important period of play for your baby. It is important that your baby has her tummy time on a clean surface. A tummy time mat that can be set in your living room or bedroom can come in handy. Start your baby on tummy time immediately they come home. Get a proper tummy time play mat or an activity gym.
6. Set up baby gear
Have some kind of baby gear in most of the rooms that you spend time in. This will create convenience when you need to put the baby down. Invest in a portable newborn lounger because it can easily be placed in different rooms. Examples of useful baby gear are; Infant-to-Toddler Rocker, Baby Swings, Baby Floor Seat, etc.
7. Have a designated basket for burp cloths, bibs, and blankets
Have a small bin for burp cloths, blankets and bibs for easy access when feeding or holding the baby.
