What to Wear Camping: 12+ Outfit Ideas That Are Cute & Functional
Planning a camping trip but don’t know what to wear? Who says you can’t look cute and wear something functional? No matter what time of year you’re camping or where, there are plenty of cute outfits you can pack to stay comfortable. I have 12+ adorable camping outfits that are practical and stylish.
What to Wear Camping: 12+ Outfit Ideas That Are Cute & Functional
1. Quilted Pullover and Canvas Pants
If you’re camping in the spring or fall when temperatures are still cool, this outfit is both cute and functional. It’s effortless without being too outdoorsy.
Wear slim-fitting canvas pants, a cute quilted zip pullover and a pair of canvas sneakers. Don’t forget to put on a simple black tee under the pullover, so you’re ready for any weather.
If you plan to hike, swap out the canvas sneakers for a pair of hiking boots.
The great thing about this look is that it’s practical for trail walking and being outdoors, but you can also wear it in town if you’re taking a break from nature to go out for dinner or get more supplies.
2. The Backpacker’s Look
The camping outfits you pack need to match the terrain and climate, but you don’t have to sacrifice style to stay comfortable and warm.
If you’re doing some serious hiking and plan to be in cooler weather, here’s a cute outfit to pack:
Make sure your pack is big enough to carry all of the supplies you’ll need for the day (or however long you’ll be out).
3. Made Wild
Here’s a cute camping outfit that’s versatile, functional and super comfortable. It’s best for camping trips where you’ll spend most of the time at the campground or at your campsite.
Pair a distressed gray sweatshirt with a pair of dark gray jeans and brown hiking boots. You can wear cozy socks or keep it simple.
If the weather is cooler, you can wear a cute beanie to tie the whole look together.

4. Hiking Aesthetic
For cool-weather camping, this outfit is perfect. Start with an oversized teddy jacket, and wear a warm long-sleeve top underneath. Pair with fleece-lined leggings, a pair of cute socks, a beanie and matching hiking boots.
The brown and black color theme will give you an earthy vibe that’s fitting for your camping trip.
5. Summer at the Lake
It doesn’t get any better than a summer camping trip at the lake. You have so many options when planning your looks, but this outfit is simple, practical and still stylish.
If you plan to be active with hiking or fishing, then you’ll appreciate the versatility of this outfit.
Pair a simple green sweater with a pair of loose-fitting green cargo shorts, white crew socks, hiking boots and a green baseball cap.
6. Fall Camping Look
Looking for fall camping outfits? This look is perfect, thanks to the bright fall colors in this fleece. You can find a similar style and cute patterns from Eddie Bauer at a more affordable price.
The rest of the look is simple:
- Fleece lined leggings
- Comfy short-sleeve top to wear underneath your fleece
- Gray beanie
- Hiking boots
- Cute socks
- Leather backpack
Don’t forget to pack a cute water bottle to stay hydrated.
7. Winter Camping and Hiking Gear
If you’re brave enough to camp during winter or at higher elevations, then you’ll love this look. It’s cute, functional and stylish.
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate this look:
Pack your sunglasses to protect your eyes – the sun’s reflection on the snow can be harmful to your eyes.
I also recommend packing winter socks and layering underneath your coat to stay warm. If you’re camping overnight in the snow, make sure you’re trained and prepared.
8. Minimalist Style
If you’re more of a minimalist girl, this camping outfit is perfect. Its calming, earthy tones are cute and practical for hiking or just hanging out by the fire.
There’s a lot of flexibility with this look, but here are some ideas:
Layering will help you stay warm and comfortable if you’re camping in cooler weather.

9. Cold Weather Style
Winter camping is almost always an adventure, but you need the right gear to be safe and warm. The good news? You can still look cute, even in your snow pants and shoes.
This look is perfect for a camping weekend in the mountains.
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate this outfit:
- Black snow pants – make sure they’re insulated (I love fleece-lined pants!)
- Fair isle wool sweater
- Long-sleeve undershirt
- White beanie
- Hiking boots
- Wool socks
- Hiking backpack
Don’t forget to pack a jacket too, if the weather is going to be especially chilly.
10. Hippie Style
The striped top that she’s wearing immediately reminds me of the 1970s. She’s also wearing a dark orange/brown beanie and has her hair in pigtails. And she’s wearing high-waisted jeans with cuts at the knees, which are fairly easy to find at any store.
You probably have a pair of jeans that you can wear with this outfit already.
Naturally, she’s wearing hiking boots for her camping trip. You can choose any boots that you wish, but since she’s going for a stylish look, these wheat-colored fashion boots will look amazing with this outfit.
If you plan on watching the sunset or rise, be sure to bring along your favorite pair of sunglasses.
11. Puffer Jacket and Beanie
Camping outfits like this one are easy to recreate because she’s not wearing anything that she probably wouldn’t wear outside on a cold day, aside from her boots. Her jacket is up for interpretation because there are just so many like it.
For me, I would go with an insulated puffer jacket to keep me warm by the bonfire at night.
She’s also wearing a black beanie, sunglasses and basic gray pants. You can recreate this look for less by swapping out the pants, but I chose wool just in case the temperatures dip too much at night.
12. Alpine Ridge Look
I really love this look, especially with the different shades of blue that she put together. Her pants are the first item on the list to source, and these water-resistant, fleece-lined joggers will do the trick.
She’s also rocking very cute boots, kind of like these from Foxelli. Since these are also waterproof, they’re a good option if it rains.
And for her top, we can see that it’s a simple zip-up that is teal blue. I really like this one from Polaris because it has a hoodie and is made for outdoor enthusiasts. We can’t see if she has sunglasses or is wearing a beanie, but feel free to add them in.

13. Frolick in the Woods
What a simple style to pull off when you’re camping and want to take a quick walk through the woods. She’s wearing a pullover sweater and a beanie to stay warm. Yarn beanies are a tad more expensive, but they are much warmer than other materials.
Next up, she’s wearing ripped jeans and boots to complete the look.
I do recommend that you avoid wearing ripped jeans with the giant rips on them because it’s too easy to get tangled if you plan on walking in the woods. But if there are well-cut trails and you don’t plan on frolicking in the woods, you should be fine.
14. Plaid Shirt and Hiking Boots
How cute does she look hiking in this outfit? She’s wearing a ton of different items, starting with an adorable vest, a plaid button-down shirt and a grey shirt underneath. For the pants, dark colored jeans work well or even joggers.
Finally, you have the must-have hiking boots (these are super stylish) to help her maintain traction even during a rigorous hike.
Obviously, she’s layering her outfit very well for her camping trip and it is probably in late fall, which can get quite cold. You can ditch some of the layering if you like – because near me, this outfit would be overkill during the end of spring through summer.
15. Grand Canyon Look
Simple, functional and stylish are three words to describe this look. She’s wearing four main pieces that make up her outfit, and it’s simple enough to piece this one together on your own. I recommend the following:
- Boots: Hiker boots like these are necessary when out camping on rough terrain. Kohl’s has a pair (find it here) that will do the trick.
- Socks: I recommend a pair of wool socks because you never know when a warm forecast can turn into a cold one overnight.
- Top: A simple long sleeve top will work well for this look, but if you want a few more pockets (who doesn’t?), you can try this hoodie.
- Pants: Any pair of workout cargo pants will work, but I prefer these ones with pockets.
Camping outfits like these are fun because you can certainly wear them when you’re out camping, but they also look cute at the gym or if you want to look sporty today.
