Planning a witch-themed Halloween party this year and need some inspiration? I have some killer ideas for your decor and the food and drinks you can serve. From cauldrons to gross-looking but delicious-tasting snacks, you’ll find everything you need to plan an unforgettable party.
Spooky Decor Ideas for Your Witch-Themed Halloween Party
Decorations will set the scene and bring your witch theme to life. There are so many fun ways to decorate your space for the party, and you don’t need to spend a fortune getting everything ready.
Use these ideas as inspiration for your own gathering.
Add a Witch’s Cauldron to Your Front Lawn
It wouldn’t be a witch-themed party without a cauldron, right? Make one for your front yard to welcome guests to your party.
You’ll need a large cauldron, pond foggers, spray foam, black spray paint, orange string lights, Mod Podge, oatmeal and a few other craft materials.
The process is a little complicated (and actually involves gluing oatmeal to the cauldron to make it look “bubbly”), but it’s so worth the effort.

Floating Witches Hats and Candles
Decorate hallways and hangout spaces with floating witch hats and candles to create a spooky ambiance. You’ll need some floating witch hats, floating candles, command hooks, batteries and some fishing line.
You’ll use the fishing line to hang the hats and candles from the ceiling. Just make sure that you find a good spot to set up this display, and make sure that your decor won’t hang so low that it hits people on the head.
Tandra Nicole has a great tutorial on how to create this ambiance for your party.

Set the Table
A witch-themed Halloween party requires a nice place for people to eat. Place a cauldron in the middle of the table and put a small mist machine inside to make smoke, but feel free to shut it off while guests are eating if it’s too distracting.
Pentagram plates are perfect for this look, along with:
- Tall drinking goblets
- Flameless candles
- Potion books
Add silverware and serve your food. It’s the fine details of your space that will make your party memorable. If you plan on having a lot of guests, a food bar may be a better option. I’ll explain how to make your food bar truly spooky next.
Decorate a Spooky Food Bar
Spooky food bars always make me happy, and this is something you can experiment with. Add the foods you like, such as gummy worms, witch fingers and some of the foods that I’ll list below for you, such as witch’s hair.
Place a large table down, cover it with a black tablecloth and some Halloween lights.
Be sure to place a few fake spiders on the table and “potion” books to add to the witch theme.
Create Cute Place Settings
Place settings make your space look more professional. Moroccan plates are the base of this look and gold napkins add an upscale look and feel. Then, you can print out a spooky menu that has all of the night’s delights on the list.
Place small cauldrons in the middle of the plates.
If you like, you can buy straw and string to make mini witch’s brooms that you can place on top or inside of the cauldron.
Decorate with Crystal Balls
DIY crystal balls are a good addition for a witch-themed Halloween party because, as we all know, witches look into the future or past to tell you your fortune. You can purchase crystal balls online, but they’re easy to make with the following bases:
- Candle holders
- Decanter bases
- Serving bowl stands
Your crystal balls use just 4” round glass Christmas ornaments, and you can choose any style you like.
Follow the instructions from Me and Annabellee and you’ll learn how to frost your glasses and make each of them unique. Five variations are available, including sea glass, frosted and a few others.
Keep Your Guests Happy With These Food and Drink Ideas
Decorations set the scene, but food puts a smile on people’s faces. You can do a lot with your Halloween food and drink ideas, and a few of the fun options that I know you’ll appreciate are:
Shadow Charcuterie Board
Shadow charcuterie boards are fun and delish. The Moon School explains the symbolism behind each of the ingredients, which include aged cheddar wedges, blackberries, black grapes, blueberries, blue cheese, figs, walnuts, black olives, smoked meats, mushrooms, citrus, honey and charcoal crackers.
You can add a few garnishes to make the board look even more enticing: edible flowers, pomegranate seeds and rosemary sprigs.
Witches Brew Lemonade
Witches brew? Lemonade? What’s the difference? You’ll have a fun, spooky drink to serve to your guests that looks nothing short of magical. And your ingredient list includes:
- Activated charcoal powder
- Fresh lemon slices
- Fresh lemon juice
- Granulated sugar
- Gummy worms
- Soda water
Mix the lemonade base with sugar and stir until it fully dissolves. Add your charcoal and stir, followed by your soda water, lemon slices, ice and decorations.
On top, add your gummy worm or candy eyeballs to give your drink a little extra “spookiness.”

Witches Hair Pasta
Your witch-themed Halloween party should include witch’s hair pasta. Squid ink pasta steals the show and has a very light garlic sauce on top that the author explains how to make. You’ll start with a cold pan, and then add oil and garlic that you’ll heat together slowly to avoid burning.
Once your garlic is softened, add red pepper flakes and your pasta to the mixture to cook it.
You can deviate from this recipe and choose any type of sauce you wish, even a nice red sauce.
Spooky Sangria
Adults will appreciate the spooky sangria you serve them, and it mixes red wine, blood oranges, pomegranate juice, blackberries and elderflower liquor. If you want, you can add dry ice to the drink, but it’s 100% optional, like the Social Sipper explains.
You’ll want to use fun glasses, such as these vintage goblets or these ones that remind me of witch goblets.
Baked Potato Witch Fingers
Witch fingers sound less than appetizing, but this variety is as delish as it is spooky. Add a little bit of gruesome to your party this year with the help of russet potatoes, salt, olive oil, all-purpose flour and raw almonds.
You’ll combine all of your ingredients into a bowl after cooking, peeling and mashing the potatoes.
Mix your ingredients (minus the almonds) in a bowl to make a dough. Preheat your oven to 400℉ and take this time to line your baking tray with parchment paper.
Using a teaspoon, take two scoops of the mashed potatoes, form into a ball and then into the shape of a finger. Add the sliced almonds to the tip of the finger to make it look like a nail. Cut in knuckle lines with a knife and repeat with the rest of the fingers.
Bake for 20 – 25 minutes until the bottoms are crisp and brown.
Dead Head Moth Bites
Acting as an appetizer, these moth bites look and taste amazing. How do you make them? It’s so easy:
- Dates are used to make the thick moth body
- Wafer paper, food color markers, black luster powder and a small circle punch help make the moth wings
- Bacon slices, bleu cheese and cream cheese add even more flavor
You’ll fill your pitted dates with your cream mixture and wrap bacon around the dates before cooking.
Witches Brew
Green pea soup is what you’ll use to make the witch’s brew, and it will take you all of thirty minutes to put together. Prep time primarily consists of cutting up ingredients, which are broken down into three sections:
- Main: Olive oil, minced garlic cloves, potatoes, frozen green peas, baby spinach, ground pepper, salt and vegetable stock. Onions are optional.
- Mushrooms: Olive oil, white mushrooms, vegetable stock and salt.
- Garnish: Crushed red pepper, black pepper, heavy cream, micro rainbow mix and peas.
Halloween Pasta Salad
Pasta salad that looks like Halloween in a bowl? That’s what Well and Full teaches you how to make with this recipe. Start by bringing your pasta pot to a boil with salted water and then add in your Halloween pasta.
While cooking, spend this time chopping your carrots, spinach and onions.
Dressing includes adding all of the following ingredients into a bowl together, combining and then mixing in the pasta: extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, brown mustard, maple syrup, dried sage, dried oregano, dried thyme, salt and pepper.

Witches Broom Snacks
Witch’s brooms are perfect for any witch-themed Halloween party and require just four simple ingredients: chives, pretzel sticks, cheese sticks and peanut butter. Cut the cheese sticks in half, place a pretzel stick in the middle, use the chives to tie around the cheese and spread peanut butter for additional flavor.
If you want to add even more flavors to your delicious broom snacks, experiment with varying cheeses.
Final Thoughts
Witch-themed Halloween parties are always a fun idea for kids – and adults – of all ages. Mix and match some of the ideas above or use them as inspiration to make your own, unique decorations and foods that your guests will appreciate.
