Halloween isn’t Halloween without our furry friends. But let’s face it – some costumes are just uncomfortable for dogs. Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered. I’m going to share 21+ hilarious and easy DIY Halloween costumes for dogs that won’t make them hate you.
21+ Hilarious Easy DIY Halloween Costumes for Dogs That Won’t Make Them Hate You
1. Reggae Dog
How hilarious is this dog? He or she will easily be the life of the party in this costume. And it’s so easy to make with just a few things:
- Tie-dyed shirt for kids
- Dreads made from yarn
- A Rasta hat (you’ll need to buy this if you don’t have one – here’s one for small dogs)
- Sunglasses
Your pup may not want to wear glasses all night, so you may want to skip this piece of the costume.

2. Little Sh*t
Perfect for the little dog that can be a bit sassy. This costume is actually easy to make yourself. Get a small brown shirt and alter it to fit your dog comfortably. Make eyes and a smile with felt, and you can either glue it to the shirt or sew it. Add a poop headband (this one you’ll need to buy) to complete the costume.
3. DIY Bat Costume
One of the best, easy DIY Halloween costumes for dogs on this list! And it’s a costume that your dog won’t mind wearing.
You need just three things: black poster paper, tape and a bodice to attach the wings.
Paint Sew Glue Chew walks you through each step of making this fun costume. And you can adjust the size of the wings based on the size of your dog.
It’s a simple but fun costume that won’t be too bothersome for your pup. Just make sure everyone stays out of their way!
4. Corn on the Cob
This costume is perfect for a small dog, and it’s so easy to make. The trickiest part will be getting the measurements just right to fit your pup. The simplest option is to take a shirt that fits your dog and use those measurements to cut the body of this costume.
Green felt will work perfectly for the husk. Then, use that same felt to trace and cut rounded leaf-shaped pieces to attach along the sides of the corn kernels.
For the corn itself, you can use plastic yellow balls.
5. Harry Pupper
The cutest little costume for Harry Potter fans. And your dog won’t hate you for this one (unless they hate wearing shirts).
All you need is a black doggy shirt and a little scarf. You can easily make it using red and yellow felt.
I would skip the glasses unless your dog is comfortable wearing them. One last tip: make sure the scarf and shirt aren’t too long. You don’t want your pup to trip on them as they’re walking.
6. Little Cupcake
Your dog is a sweetie, so why not dress them up as a little cupcake? Lovely Indeed has a fun tutorial that shows you how to make this adorable costume.
You need just a few things:
- Paper mache box
- Different colors of felt
- Scrapbook paper
- Polyfill
- Elastic
- Needle, scissors, glue gun and thread
You can use whatever colors you want for the cupcake icing, sprinkles and “cake.” Lovely Indeed even shares tips on how to make this costume fit safely on your dog.
7. Flower Pup
Here’s one of the cutest, easy DIY Halloween costumes for dogs. Turn your furry friend into a pretty flower with just a few supplies: felt and elastic. You’ll need a sewing machine for this one, but it will be worth the effort.
Start by cutting the felt into petal shapes, and sew them to the elastic. Make sure the band fits your dog but isn’t too tight.
8. Old Lady Dog Costume
A hilarious costume that will take some ingenuity and a sewing machine to pull off.
- Find a modest, long-sleeved dress made for a toddler and fit it to your dog’s size.
- Fill the arms with stuffing.
- Get a dog-friendly old lady wig.
- Complete the look with a pair of glasses.
9. Beanie Baby
This is hands-down the easiest costume on this list, but it’s just as cute and funny as the others. The simplest way to make this costume is to use red and white felt to create the heart and “ty” logo.
The felt will be lightweight enough that it shouldn’t bother your dog. Just make sure that you don’t make it too large.
When creating your heart, create a hole at the top to make space for a collar so that you can attach the “tag” to your dog.
10. Mummy
Here’s another super easy costume that’s hilarious and adorable, especially on little dogs. You can use gauze to wrap your dog up. Don’t wrap it too tight, but make sure it will stay on throughout the night.
If you have a larger dog, you may need to use toilet paper or even white cloth to make the mummy wrap.
11. Superhero
Not all superheroes wear capes, but your dog does. This is a really easy costume to make, and it won’t cause your dog discomfort.
If you have an apron at home, you can use that as your dog’s cape. Just trim the length to make it fit your dog.
If you’re skilled with a sewing machine, you can make your own little cape. As for the eye mask, you can create your own or you can use one meant for humans and size it for your dog.

12. Rocket Ship
One of the silliest, easy DIY Halloween costumes for dogs on this list. Cut holes in an insulation bag for your dog’s front legs. Attach aluminum bottles to the top and make flames out of construction paper. Stick on a little NASA sticker for fun.
13. Bumblebee
Create a cute little bumblebee with a black and yellow hoodie. You can add the black stripes by cutting small pieces of black fabric and attaching them with fabric glue.
On the back, attach the bee wings and cute antennas.
14. It’s Me, Mario!
Gamers will appreciate this Mario costume. You can easily recreate it with a red dog shirt and overalls. The hardest part will be getting your dog to wear the signature Mario hat.
15. Pup Garden Gnome
A pup garden gnome is so cute. You’ll need to make a hat out of cardboard paper, but it will be hard to keep on your dog’s head. You can try using gentle elastic, but be sure that it’s loose enough that it doesn’t harm your pup.
Dress your dog in a red shirt and then attach this faux fur fabric to make the gnome’s beard.
16. Chucky Doll
Just look at this adorable dog dressed up as Chucky, the murderous doll. You can make this costume yourself with jean overalls for your dog, red striped fabric and a plastic knife. It will take some sewing skill, but it’s easy enough.
You can also find done-for-you costumes.
17. DIY S’mores
S’mores are easy DIY Halloween costumes for dogs that are also just so cute. You can use a cow shirt (I’m choosing this cream one because it looks more like marshmallows to me) and then put a square piece of cardboard on the dog’s back to look like a graham cracker for S’mores.
18. Target Dog
I’m going to be honest, while I love this costume, my dog wouldn’t sit with an eyepatch on for long. But, it’s fairly easy to make with:
- A red dog sweater
- Bullseye patches
You can make the patches out of red and white fabric. If you have a white dog, you may be able to find red makeup that is dog-friendly that you can use to make the circle around his eye.
19. Pup Ball
You can make this costume in one of two ways. First, it looks like the owner put tape on the pup’s back and just made football laces out of them. For me, I just imagine the poor dog in pain when you remove the tape – ouch.
If you want to avoid hurting your doggo, put a brown shirt on him and the laces on it with tape.
20. Pumpkin Pup
While this Pin clearly uses AI, you can do better with a simple orange dog sweater and a stuffed pumpkin (like this one). Your goal is to attach the pumpkin to your dog’s sweater, which you can do by gluing or sewing it into place.
If you like, you can attach a little green stem to the top of the hoodie to make it look like a true pumpkin.
21. Minion Pup
Minions are always fun and mischievous. You’ll need a yellow shirt, jean overalls and then add the eyes with a bit of felt. If you don’t want to sew the minion’s goggles on, you can use fabric glue.

22. Four-Legged Spider
Your pup is adorable, so why not make him make everyone screech when he runs by as a giant spider? Easy DIY Halloween costumes for dogs like this one only require a little bit of imagination.
Buy your dog a black sweater and attach spider legs with your sewing skills.
A little bit of black fabric will do the trick.
23. McDonald’s French Fries Dog Costume
If your pup’s wearing a cone, this is your chance to turn it into the ultimate Halloween win. Wrap the cone in red paper, add a McDonald’s logo on the front, and cut out a few “fries” from yellow construction paper to stick on the back. Boom – your dog is now everyone’s favorite side order.
24. Dinner for Two?!
This one cracks me up every time. It’s a spooky clown costume holding a tray… with your dog’s head on it. I mean, come on – I could laugh at this for hours.
To DIY it, you’ll need a lightweight stand to sit on your dog’s back, a creepy clown doll or stake to drape over it, and a piece of cardboard to create the tray.
I found a scary clown garden stake online, and once it arrived, I pieced together the “head on a platter” using a kid-sized pirate costume, an ear warmer, an old skeleton tank top, and a dog shirt. Add a bunch of Velcro, and boom – dinner is served!
25. Snoop Dog
Turn your pup into the Doggfather himself.
I’m obsessed with this Snoop Dogg Halloween costume – it’s hilarious and actually looks spot on. If your dog has that long-faced chill vibe, this one’s gonna be a hit.
To DIY it, grab a black wig (any one will do) and style it into two ponytails. Add some cool sunglasses, a sleeveless white tee, a chunky necklace, and boom – your dog’s channeling serious West Coast energy.
Bonus points if you add a little sign with a Snoop Dogg quote like “Drop it like it’s hot.”
