5 Pinterest Strategies That Will Skyrocket Your Blog Traffic



Let’s face it! How many bloggers out there know that Pinterest isn’t a social media platform, but a search engine? How long have you been searching for traffic success with Pinterest without any luck?

You’ve painstakingly implemented every tip and trick that Pinterest experts recommend, but you do not see the results. You’re probably wondering, “what the heck am I doing wrong?” Why don’t you take a break, sit back, and ask yourself these salient questions:

The major reason why many bloggers don’t see or reap success via Pinterest is that they lack a well-thought-out strategy for success. Many of them just pin on Pinterest without even understand the reason they’re doing it.

If you want to drive at least 10,000 – 30,000 monthly page views from Pinterest, be ready to establish a strong Pinterest strategy. Fortunately, developing a reliable Pinterest strategy is not rocket science and it is possible when you know what rules to follow.


Frustration drove me to start pinning on Pinterest in 2018. My first blog was suffering from a severe case of low traffic. I have spent countless hours commenting on other blogs, posting on Instagram, sharing on Facebook, and performing other small ROI tasks. None of them worked. In short, throughout the blessed month of May 2018, after implementing SEO for a year, my first blog only got a pathetic 9,551 sessions. No kidding.

It was clear I needed a change. I decided to revamp my traffic strategy and concentrate all my blogging effort on Pinterest.

In June 2018, I started a new blog –, and guess what happened next! In just 5 months, my blog traffic level went up to 64,805 page views per month!

These days, Pinterest is delivering approximately 75-200 thousand page views every month to my blog—all for free. That is 20 times more than the amount delivered by Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter altogether.

While Google will determine your traffic ability based mainly on the amount of backlinks you have, the age of your blog, and your content, Pinterest cares less. What Pinterest cares about is mainly your content. By doing this, Pinterest creates an equal playing field for all bloggers. That means that as a new blogger, you can increase your blog traffic fast.

Moreover, Pinterest functions as a visual search engine, meaning your pins have a durable lifespan compared to other social media platforms.


When people talk about Pinterest strategy, they are referring to all the steps you take to drive traffic over to your blog from Pinterest. These include:

  • The type and quality of the content you pin
  • The various boards you choose to pin your content to
  • How regular/ many times you pin
  • When do you pin
  • Whether you are using automated or manual pinning

There is no single exclusive Pinterest strategy that will always bring the “Midas touch” of marvelous page views to your blog. Notwithstanding, the Pinterest strategy you adopt should take into consideration your experience level with Pinterest.

Over time, you will need to adjust your Pinterest strategy to your progress and your profile’s growth. The difference is mainly in the the use of Pinterest boards and group boards in different stages.

That said, let’s take you straight to five of the most dependable Pinterest strategy rules that will skyrocket your blog traffic to high heavens.


1. Target the right audience (who uses Pinterest) and adjust your Pinterest profile to your audience

Did you know that 70% of Pinterest users are women? In fact, there are many other interesting facts you should know about Pinterest.

Before you start using Pinterest, you must check who are the people that use Pinterest and what they are looking for. To do that you can get into Pinterest Audience Insights and get to know Pinterest users better. Audience Insights reveal what your existing and potential customers are interested in, based on their behavior on Pinterest.

To access Audience Insights, click Analytics at the top of Pinterest then select Audience Insights in your Pinterest business account.

After you know who uses Pinterest, you can target the right audience.

Now that you are sure that your audience is using Pinterest, you can start adjusting your content to them.

It is very important to create a Pinterest profile that is visually appealing, well-labeled, and properly organized, especially if you’re building your engagement from scratch.

You need to understand that you have only a few seconds to impress a new visitor. If the user loves your profile and its contents, it will encourage him or her to browse your boards, interact with your pins, repin and follow more of what you put out.

Your audience and how your Pinterest profile appeals to them will determine how successful your Pinterest profile will become.

The more your audience engages with your pins, the higher the exposure you’ll get.


  • First, if you haven’t done it yet, switch your profile to a business profile. A business account will give you access to Pinterest analytics that will provide essential details on how your pins are performing.
  • Upload your profile picture or your business logo. It would make it easier for other Pinterest users to recognize your brand page at first glance.
  • Now proceed to match your username with your business/company name. If the system tells you the name is too long or is already in use by another user, use an abbreviation or add a popular keyword that describes your niche.
  • Your profile will not be utterly appealing without a convincing bio. A short bio, around 160 characters (best for SEO), can attract your business from a distant. A good bio will enable people to know what exactly your blog is about and how it can help them.
  • Make sure to include your location—town or city. It is crucial since you’re targeting a specific audience. It will go a long way in helping you to attract the attention of local followers.
  • Add your website and don’t forget to claim it.
  • Allow Pinterest Rich pins that provide more information about your articles.
  • Organize your boards – You need to put your best pins in the front. As I mentioned before, you have only a few seconds to impress a Pinterest user. Make sure your best boards are at the top of your “Boards” feed and your best Pins are repined more often.

2. Be consistent

Being consistent is crucial if you want to succeed on Pinterest. Actually, being consistent is the difference between failure and success.

When I started pinning on Pinterest, I spent all day on Pinterest. I was extremely determined to find out what is the secret to drive tons of traffic from Pinterest. I published new Pins every day and repined about 200 other pins.

While it is good to be active on Pinterest, you don’t need to go crazy. There are a few rules you must follow to keep your Pinterest profile active that will help you become more successful on Pinterest and drive more traffic to your blog.

  • Pin 20-50 pins every day. Pinterest’s algorithm loves active users.
  • Pin when your audience is the most active.
  • If you pin manually, you can split your pinning sessions in two. So you can get into Pinterest twice a day to Pin 15-30 minutes each session.
  • Scheduling your content can help you pin consistently. You can use Tailwind to schedule new and reliable pins to your boards. I use Tailwind to schedule most of my pins at the most active hours, especially when I go on vacation.
  • If you are a new Pinterest user, pin a minimum of 20% of your content and 80% of other user’s contents. This will help you get more engagement and new followers. After your Pinterest profile grows, you can pin mainly your pins.
  • Post a new pin every day! Pinterest loves fresh Pins. Try to write at least two new articles every week and redesign older pins.

Being consistent will help you put your content in front of new users all the time, but it doesn’t stop there. By being consistent, you will boost your SEO too.

3. Create irresistible pins and the best content you can 

Apart from your profile, the success of your Pinterest strategies will depend mainly on the quality of your pins.

To create pins that are irresistible, you have to make them accurate and attractive.

Tips to create irresistible pins:

  • First, use images that have the highest quality. Purchase your images on DepositPhotosShutterstock, or other image stock websites.
  • Use tools like CanvaAdobe Photoshop, Infogram, Recite, or Piktochart to create professional-looking pins.
  • Create vertical Pins. The Pinterest recommendation is a 2:3 ratio.
  • Use powerful and catchy titles.
  • Add well-optimized descriptions. Every pin has a description under it that informs the reader what the pins represent. Make sure your descriptions are specific, thoughtful, and timeless. That is important and will help you optimize your pins for Pinterest SEO.
  • Use relate keywords. Incorporate SEO friendly keywords to your pin to make them stand out. That also includes hashtags.
  • Add call to action button. Pins with call-to-action descriptions tend to attract an 80% engagement level.
  • Create Pins that people want to save for later.
  • Don’t forget that people mostly discover pins via search. So the more your pins are specific and well optimized, the better the chances they will appear in search results—meaning more traffic for your business.

Make sure your Pins are:

  • Well-detailed – use one or two sentences to describe what your pin represents. it should provide adequate information that will encourage a pinner to stay put and click through to your content page.
  • Interesting – use positive sentiments and sensory-related words to capture the pinner’s emotions. Sensory words are descriptive words — using imagery, they describe how we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell the world around us.
  • Helpful – Pinterest statistics states that helpful pins receive 30% more in engagement. So, make your pins valuable and irresistible by creating a precise description.

4. Be careful with group boards – don’t join any group board you find 

Pinterest group boards have a great effect on driving traffic to your blog. If you join good group boards, it can help you increase your profile engagement and reach a new audience.

Creating an effective Pinterest board strategy is essential if you want to skyrocket your site traffic.

But hold on… not all group boards are good and relevant to your target audience.

There are a few things you need to check before joining a group board:

  • Make sure the group board is related to your niche – avoid joining a group board that allows all kinds of pins. Such boards usually have low performing scores, which means that they might have less than one repin for each pin on the board. That will not help your blog traffic because the low rate of repins will diminish your status based on Pinterest’s algorithm. You have to stay away from any group board that is not related to your niche.
  • Check who the contributors are. Are many followers they have? How related they are?
  • Make sure the group board is not spammed.
  • Make sure the boards have a high Virality score on Tailwind.
  • Avoid joining group boards that have too many contributors – they usually have low Virality scores too.
  • Not overly active – Any group board with a fast-moving stream is usually going to make it difficult for members to spot and repin your pins.

5. Optimize your Pinterest for SEO 

The tips we have covered above are some of the ways you can optimize your Pinterest for SEO. In other words, when you create boards that target your niche audience, you’re optimizing your Pinterest for SEO. When your board description contains rich, conversational keywords, you’re optimizing for SEO. When you add productive and strategic keywords to your pins, with about five researchable hashtags, you’re optimizing your profile for Pinterest SEO.

That said, you still need to adopt some best practices to make the most out of Pinterest and accelerate your business growth. Below are some Pinterest strategies you use to boost your Pinterest SEO.   

  • Make keyword research – to know what are the most popular keywords you should use in your profile and reach more Pinterest users.
  • Make a competitor analysis – to know who is ranked at the top and how your Pinterest profile should be optimized.
  • Customize your username – as I mentioned above, you can choose either one of your name, your blog’s name, or keywords relevant to your niche as your username.
  • Optimize your display name – your display is even more critical because it appears better on searches than your username.
  • Use hashtags – select 2-3 most relevant hashtags, add to your pins and watch your contents reeling high on relevant hashtag feeds.
  • Increase your domain quality – applying for rich pins and signing up for a business account will do the trick.
  • Optimize your Pinterest profile for keywords – add the keywords to the board and Pin descriptions and board names. But, avoid keyword stuffing.
  • Optimize your blog posts from your blog before sharing on Pinterest – you can start with your blog title. Add relevant keyword to the titles, image alt tags, descriptions, and inside the content.
